Elevation, Execution, and Emptying the Tank: Inside the 2026 Rollfast Tucson Camp

Elevation, Execution, and Emptying the Tank: Inside the 2026 Rollfast Tucson Camp

At Rollfast Coaching, we don’t do unstructured training camps. When we take a roster of athletes to the desert, the goal is not just to log volume in the sun—it is to build the Complete Cyclist.

Last week we took over the Woodland Water Tower Ranch in Tucson, Arizona. The 2026 Tucson Camp stripped away the ego, tested pacing discipline, and forced every rider to unlock new levels of execution.

Here is a look inside the week.

The Stages: Engineering Speed in the Desert

We structured the week to challenge a different aspect of the Rollfast methodology every single day.

  • The Oxygen Audit (Mt. Lemmon): We tackled the 60-mile, 6,500ft Queen Stage. The philosophy was “Empty the Tank Early.” We coached our athletes to bank their hard work at the bottom where the air is thick and oxygen-rich, knowing that above 6,000 feet, power will fade regardless of effort. The result? Multiple riders cut significant time off their previous Mt. Lemmon PRs.
  • Free Speed (Saguaro National Park): This route was a masterclass in Momentum Capture. The goal was to carry velocity into the rollers without spiking power into the red zone. Riders focused on high-cadence accelerations at the crests and low-cadence torque on the descents to keep their speed high and their physiological cost low.
  • The Diesel Engine (Colossal Cave & Pistol Hill): Our longest day tested durability and group dynamics. Recognizing the varying fitness levels across the camp roster, this stage became a lesson in pack management and coaching leadership. Rather than rotating, the coaching staff locked onto the front to strictly control the pace, ensuring the group stayed together while moving efficiently. We kept the physical effort strictly in the Cruise/Tempo zones, allowing everyone to enjoy the draft and conserve energy. It was also the perfect testing ground for riders to execute their Momentum Capture skills over the rolling terrain of Pistol Hill.
  • The Hunt (7 Cats): We capped off the riding with a 9-mile handicap race effort from the base of Mt. Lemmon to Seven Cataracts. By leveling the playing field with staggered starts where the “hares” started first and the “hounds” chased, we created a highly competitive “pseudo-race” environment. It was the ultimate test of emptying the tank to make the catch before the finish line.

“Having riders of all different skill levels really pushed me both mentally and physically each day, and I loved that balance of challenge and camaraderie.”

Pro-Level On-Road Support

No high-performance camp operates without a dedicated support crew. A massive thank you goes to Matt Breeden, who drove the SAG van every single day and made the entire week completely seamless. Having Matt on the road was a game-changer. He fixed flat tires on the fly, carried our lunches and extra hydration, and hauled discarded clothing as the desert heated up. During the grueling Mt. Lemmon stage, a few riders even utilized the van to strategically skip a few miles and manage their physiological load. We push our athletes hard, but with support like this, we ensure no one is ever left out in the desert.

Beyond the Bike: Protein, Recovery, and Longevity

You cannot execute at this level without world-class recovery. This year, Chris Tanner exceeded expectations in elevating the camp experience.

Coming back to the ranch every evening made it easy to relax and recharge, but the real differentiator was the fueling. Traditional cycling camps push a massive, high-carbohydrate agenda. Rollfast does things differently. We prioritize high-protein meals designed to repair tissue, build resilient muscle, and optimize hormonal recovery. From the macro-balanced, high-protein breakfasts to the legendary Dickman’s Butcher Ribeyes and fajita dinners, we focused on true physiological adaptation rather than just sugar-loading.

We paired this physical recovery with our nightly coaching meetings, which riders called a great enhancement to the week. We didn’t just review the routes; we dove deep into Chris’s Longevity Audit. Riders found these details highly insightful for managing their health, body composition, and longevity prior to big events.

“The Rollfast cycling camp is one the best organized camps I’ve participated in… Just great riding, super insightful coaching, great camaraderie, expert fueling and recovery advice, and unparalleled longevity insights.”

The Result: Confidence and Mental Fitness

The feedback from the 2026 camp has been incredible. The friction points were minimal, and the breakthroughs were massive. But the real victory is the shift in mindset. As one athlete summarized perfectly, the biggest takeaway was realizing they had the ability to always push “a little more.” That is Mental Fitness in action.

“Rollfast Camp exceeded my expectations. The routes were well planned, the food and accommodations were excellent, and the instruction and overall coordination were handled professionally from start to finish.”
