Our Story: Beyond Watts and Podiums

For years, many of us in the cycling world, including myself and Matt Breeden, have followed a traditional path—chasing race results, logging massive carbohydrate intake, and training with a singular focus on speed. We've seen it work for young racers, but we also started to see a different, more concerning trend. We saw riders, even dedicated ones, slowly fade away with age. We realized that the short-term heroics of a race plan weren’t built for the long game of life. A few years ago, I had a personal revelation about my own mortality and made a conscious choice to change course. I wanted to ride fast as I got older, but I also wanted to be strong, have good bone density, and maintain my flexibility and mobility for decades to come. As I started to focus on foundational health principles—prioritizing protein, lifting weights, and reducing my reliance on carbohydrates—I found a new level of performance and vitality. What became clear was that many other cyclists wanted the same thing, but they didn't have a ``map`` to get there. The traditional coaching programs simply weren't built for a long-term vision of health and longevity. This is why we founded Rollfast Coaching. We believe that true performance and a long, healthy life are not mutually exclusive—they are intertwined. Our mission is to create a coaching system that makes the Rollfast brand synonymous with both high-performance cycling and good health. It's not just about winning the race; it's about being the 75-year-old on the group ride who is still taking pulls and putting the hurt on people.

Racing and Coaching Background

Matt Breeden is a lifelong competitor who brings the perspective of a racer and the precision of a scientist to Rollfast Coaching. Over the years, he has tested himself at the highest levels of amateur cycling, earning wins and podiums in both gravel and road races across the country. At the same time, he has built a career as a successful executive, attorney, and data scientist with industry-leading companies. Proof that discipline, strategy, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge can drive success on and off the bike.

As a coach, Matt blends racing experience with a modern, holistic approach to performance. He believes the role of a coach isn’t just to prescribe workouts, but to build resilient athletes who can ride faster, grow stronger, and sustain their health for the long run.

Matt’s athletes describe him as approachable, analytical, and deeply invested in their success. He has a knack for simplifying complex training science into actionable steps. Helping riders see the big picture while executing the small details that make the difference.

Racing & Coaching Background

Matt Tanner has been immersed in the world of cycling coaching since 2007, learning from some of the sport’s best. Having trained with many former professional cyclists, he has gleaned the tips and techniques that make a rider more efficient, powerful, and fast. His own racing resume is extensive, with experience in World Championship events, numerous Gran Fondo wins across the United States, and competitive rides in cycling meccas like Iceland, Rome, Spain, and France. He is constantly seeking new and smarter ways to train.

Coaching Philosophy

As the founder of Rollfast Cycling, Matt’s coaching philosophy extends far beyond the physical. He believes that “mental fitness” is just as crucial as physical fitness, and he fosters an interactive coaching environment with group Zoom calls. This platform provides a space for men, in particular, to connect, share their struggles and successes, and improve together. For Matt, while a solid workout plan is the core of the program, it’s the relationship and ongoing communication that truly defines a successful coach/athlete partnership.

Chris and Matt are a double threat coaching team!!

Despite rewriting nearly my entire Power Catalogue, enjoying a level of professional service in which I receive a consistently and timely detailed workout schedule, have been the recipient of an incredibly helpful nutritionist, and performed to my goal expectations at several events in 2022, it wasn't until today, 18 months since first engaging and after a month of listening to Matt and Christine relative to moving more macros to protein, and saw myself hit a new top power number, am I now ready to fully, confidently, and strongly endorse Matt Tanner as a Coach, and Christine Tanner for her professional nutritional leadership. I've probably spent the last decade plus not consuming enough protein, and telling myself that my weight loss was singularly positive for my performance. While my healthy racing weight is somewhere between 147-153 depending on the day, I was stripping muscle to get there. I was never truly recovering and fueling in a way to achieve protein synthesis. I'm still early days, but to achieve a new max power, simply coming out a turn, on a group ride indicates that I have more room to increase. And this was NEVER on my radar as a possibility. I feel strong, fit, and fresh. I cannot express enough about how impressed I am with working with Christine over the last 6+ months. When I first started with Christine, I thought "here we go again". But, with her guidance, she has helped me transform my body in so many different positive ways and continues to do so. I am so grateful to have found Chris in Dec2023. I have been trying to heal my gut for over 20 years. I truly believe she is an answered prayer!
